Liquids Outperform Granular Fertiliser In Young Replicated Trial
Information
This was the second year of a three year replicated trial. For the second year in a row the inefficiencies of granular fertiliser were identified with 35kg MAP out performing 70kg and only a slight increase in yield being registered for 100kg MAP. Microsoil liquids were applied in two passes as follows – 1st Application = 5 litres Microsoil Crop Starter + 4 litres Microsoil Calcium + Zinc @ 2 weeks post planting. 2nd Foliar Application = 5 litres Microsoil In Crop @ full cabbage prior to elongation. Reducing upfront costs, eg 35kg MAP in lieu of 70 or 100kg MAP per HA, and chasing yield later in the season depending on the chance of a strong or weak finish to the season was again the objective. This extensive trial replicated 42 fertiliser products. Microsoil’s result was the 5th highest in yield however in terms of ROI the result would have been better again given that only 35kg MAP was used at sowing in lieu of the Control of 70kg MAP used in most trial plots. Fertiliser Liquids In Canola Trial
A three-year replicated canola trial, conducted by Delta Agribusiness at Young, NSW, assessed the effectiveness of Microsoil’s liquid fertiliser strategy against traditional granular MAP applications. For the second consecutive year, the trial revealed the inefficiencies of high-rate granular fertilisation, with 35kg MAP outperforming 70kg MAP and showing only a minor yield gain over 100kg MAP.
Microsoil was applied in two liquid passes:
- 1st Application (2 weeks post-planting): 5L Microsoil Crop Starter + 4L Microsoil Calcium + Zinc
- 2nd Foliar Application (Full cabbage prior to elongation): 5L Microsoil In Crop
The trial, which compared 42 different fertiliser products, demonstrated that Microsoil’s lower MAP approach delivered strong yield results and improved return on investment (ROI):
- 35kg MAP: 1.85 t/ha yield, $897/ha gross margin
- 70kg MAP: 1.83 t/ha yield, $858/ha gross margin
- 100kg MAP: 1.93 t/ha yield, $884/ha gross margin
- 35kg MAP + Microsoil CS IC & Ca+Zn: 1.95 t/ha yield, $911/ha gross margin
Despite using half the MAP rate, Microsoil-treated plots outperformed all granular-based treatments, securing the 5th highest yield overall while delivering a superior ROI. The results highlight why more growers are shifting to Microsoil’s liquid fertiliser strategy, enabling greater efficiency, lower upfront costs, and improved nutrient availability throughout the season.
